Elephant in the Room No. 2

As promised, here’s another edition of “Elephant in the Room.” This first image is of the lock on my front door. It usually reminds me of a certain fungal friend…

Lock

Lock as Mushroom
Haha! Sorry about the finger in the picture, however gravity was my foe this afternoon. I also realize that the gnome is frightening, but I never claimed to be a sculptress.

Happy Saturday!

Giveaway!

Home Sweet Home

We made it home safely (barely.) Let’s just say, a three hour drive through an ice storm and hilly terrain is a terrible idea. Aside from that, the cabin was beautiful as ever and the quiet was absolutely perfect. Here are a few photos…

(This is a massive, palm-sized deer footprint if you can’t tell!)

Finally, I got some work done. I was busy cutting and gluing some Father’s Day cards. Its a little early for that but I’m happy to have a good start. I’m also happy to be home…

One for the Road

I’ve got a fantastic roadtrip soundtrack prepared for my weekend jaunt. I wanted to post a video of my favorite song from the mix, Lifetime Piling Up (Talking Heads;) but alas, no such video exists.

Talking Heads

Download the song if you don’t know it. Its the type of jam that might change your life. I’m trying to justify it as my wedding song one day. And with that, I’m off…see you Tuesday!

To the Woods

*Sigh*…I’m almost there. I’m getting an extended weekend, a minor but totally necessary break from the 9-5 world.

When my friends go on an extended weekend, they go to Vegas; not this girl. I’m fortunate that my family “owns” a small bit of land in western Wisconsin where my dad built a cabin. Its more like a house filled with most modern conveniences (no cable, no cell reception, no internet) but thats irrelevant; its my favorite piece of the planet. Its the kind of place where you can’t see your neighbors because there are acres of hills and forest between you. You look at the sky at night and think, “I had no idea there were so many stars.” You stop to listen and hear nothing. You go exploring in the woods and always find something beautiful. Again, its my most favorite place. One more day and I’m there. In honor of my much anticipated weekend, I’ve chosen some cabin themed items from the depths of Etsy. Check it out!

I know it all sounds so serene and perfect (it really is,) but the rock girl in me might have to give in to the Fever Marlene show Friday night in Madison. That will be sufficient noise for the weekend.

Hello, Broadway Paper

I’ve been in love with Broadway Paper, a Milwaukee Third Ward gem, for years now. If you appreciate the tactile experience of fine paper, the sound of heels on a hardwood floor and the visual/emotional journey of good design…well…you’d love Broadway Paper too. It is a fabulous experience from start to finish, not to mention that they have the best wrapping paper and card selection this side of the Mississippi.

That said, imagine my surprise when Broadway Paper owner, Tracie, contacted me with a request to carry some PaperMichelle designs. After the initial disbelief…I cried, sobbed, laughed and thought…”Oh gosh, I have obligations to someone!” Gulp. I immediately packed up some of my little darlings, wrapped them in plum tissue paper and sent them off to their new home.

PaperMichelle on the loose…

In honor of this milestone, my personal photographer (cough, cough…boyfriend) and I took a field trip to visit the babies at Broadway Paper. We brought the super-serious camera and snapped many a photograph. (I think we freaked out a couple customers that thought they were in the middle of a photo shoot…sorry, BP!) It was a blast, however surreal. I was absolutely thrilled to see the cards hanging out in such a beautiful shop. In fact, I can’t think of a better place for them.
