Polly Paulusma - The Woods

The video by Rima Staines is gorgeous and a touch scary. I feel like the music would have been a better match to the art if they had taken a more lo-fi approach…but alas, I’m no producer.

Schloss Neuschwanstein Paper Cut

Here is a rather low quality photograph of a small paper cut I did for my mom. It is of Schloss Neuschwanstein (Bavaria/Germany,) and it will reside in baby’s room at my parent’s house.

NSS, Franks A Bun!

Ahh sweet, lovely, glorious paper.

I’ve been perusing all the blogs featuring the fab new stuff from NSS…and I must say, there are some really fantastic pieces this year. I really wish I would have gone and I’m hoping that I’ll be ready to exhibit this time next year. Bravo to all who took part and thanks to those reporting back for us drooling, green-with-envy paper lovers to see. By far, my FAVORITE has been this super simple, perfectly hilarious card from the always-whitty eggpress:

i luv a rainy night

Here in Milwaukee it is a dark and stormy night…and I can’t get enough. This is one of the year’s first storms complete with thunder, lightning and buckets of rain. I think we all need a good shower from time to time…something to wash away the grime of city living. I have the door to my balcony wide open to let in that clean smell (something between wet grass and flowers) and its just perfect! I’m likely to jump in some puddles after this post.

In the meantime, here are some rain inspired Etsy items. I love, love, love them all.

Pretty Paints

I unintentionally came across a lot of really soft and feminine original paintings on Etsy tonight. I thought I should share a few of my favorites. All of these artists are incredibly talented and the works are beautiful. Their shops are filled with even more fabulous finds.

Runner’s High

I have a confession: I’m a runner. (gasp!) I have been ever since I stood up on two legs and realized they could take me places.

I fell back in love with running this morning. Despite the fact that I’ve been sick for a while, I reluctantly laced up my shoes and hit the pavement. It was cold and crappy outside, but everything was right in my world; my cough subsided, my legs felt light and energized, my mind was clear. Bliss.

I’ve mentioned it before, but I have some of my best ideas while running. Just like art, its a completely meditative journey where your body is working differently, most efficiently, most freely. You can stop thinking about your trivial day-to-day concerns and be totally present in the moment. I find myself daydreaming so deeply that I don’t recall city blocks I’ve passed. On the other hand, I sometimes become more aware of the things around me…the smell of freshly cut grass, the chatter of people having brunch on the sidewalk, the shadow that falls with every footstep. Its a beautiful, liberating thing to remove everything but the present. For a short period of time, you’re able to be an observer passing by one thing to the next. There is so much inspiration along the path.

For that reason, I’ll be a runner as long as my legs let me stand.

Saturday at the Market

There are very few things that I like more than an open air Farmers’ Market. We have a couple nice ones here in the Milwaukee area, and I also live across the street from Whole Foods (which gets me through our brutal, terrible, unfair winter months.)

There is just so much to love about an outdoor market…pretty pretty flowers, fresh seasonal produce, vibrant colors, all those earthy smells, the farmers with stories and remedies, the wares of local artisans and on and on. With the warm weather headed our way, I’ve got the itch to get out to the market and do some shopping. Here are some pretties inspired by this lovely weekend and the market.

ahoy, sailor…

I bought some really adorable (clearance) tops from Anthropologie in the past couple weeks. Unintentionally, they’ve all been navy blue. I’ve come to the conclusion that I love navy blue and nautical things. Here are some lovelies from the high seas…
