Saturday at the Market

There are very few things that I like more than an open air Farmers’ Market. We have a couple nice ones here in the Milwaukee area, and I also live across the street from Whole Foods (which gets me through our brutal, terrible, unfair winter months.)

There is just so much to love about an outdoor market…pretty pretty flowers, fresh seasonal produce, vibrant colors, all those earthy smells, the farmers with stories and remedies, the wares of local artisans and on and on. With the warm weather headed our way, I’ve got the itch to get out to the market and do some shopping. Here are some pretties inspired by this lovely weekend and the market.

Here’s just a fun photo from the other night at the Pabst. Happy weekend everyone! I’m off to Gallery Night.

PS! The night of the second show, we got to “participate” in a photo shoot for the new Wilco album cover (tentatively called Hemispheres.) By participate, I mean stand in a line while a photog snapped pics of the side of our faces. It was fun no-less. Maybe you’ll see my arm…and then I’ll be famous. hehe.

Gig Posters

What an under-appreciated art form! Personally, I love the gritty aesthetic of gig posters. My apartment is decorated in them, along with some old timey war propaganda posters. They represent a time, a place and a very specific event. I think there is something romantic about these paper tributes that attempt to capture the energy of the time and the people taking part.

Here are my two most recent acquisitions. The first is a print from the Wilco show last night. (Love how the artist went for the obvious Pabst/Milwaukee/beer relationship.)

Quick Recap/Highlights!
- The show started with new track, “Wilco” which is a jam.
- Tweedy looked disheveled as always, at one point sporting a Brewers hat which sent Cubs fans into a booing uproar.
-Nels Cline was the gangly guitar god that he always is. Amazing!
-The crowd was LAME. 3/4 of the “fans” sat through the entire show. Thumbs down.
-They played lots of crowd pleasers…my favorites being “Theologians” in the 1st encore, a fantastic guitar solo during “Impossible Germany,” and kick ass version of “You Are My Face.”

Pics and more commentary after tonights show!

It is finally time! The next two evenings will be spent in pure bliss, because Wilco is marching into Milwaukee to dazzle us in all their rocknroll glory. I can’t quite explain the excitement…but to be clear, Jeff Tweedy (lead singer) is the one celebrity I’m allowed to run off with if given the opportunity. Wilco makes me happy. Musically, they’re so badass that I can’t even wrap my head around it. So you get it now? I’m excited…and I will be in alt-country heaven for the next few days.

Today’s selections are inspired by these two shows. I think they’re all amazing. One third rock and roll, one third girly vintage and a final third hippie chic to make the perfect outfit for a Wilco show at the Pabst Theater. If I can get a camera in, I’ll post some photos later this week!!

Sendin some Easter lovin

I hope everyone had a fantastic Easter Sunday complete with ham, family and all the Easter goodies. (I LOVE those solid chocolate Cadbury eggs. Mmm.) It is always nice to reconnect and spend some quality time with those that are important to us. I’m so thankful for days like this.

Going with the lovey-dovey tone, here is a fun little photo taken of Thadman and me at a recent event at the Milwaukee Art Museum. Isn’t that beard fabulous? He’s pretty handsome, I must say…but who is that little girl kissing on him? ;)

New (friday) Shoes!

I’m excited about my shoes and I must share.

I couldn’t resist…these booties were calling my name. Now they’re all mine and I’m taking them on the town tonight. They are just naughty enough…a little rock n roll, but not strippery. Lets hope I can walk in them! Happy Friday.

The Tallest Man on Earth

I’m so glad the days of facial hair and quiet folk music have descended upon us. I’ll be sad when they inevitably take flight. For now…I’m just listening…

Check out The Tallest Man on Earth here or live at the Pabst Theater on April 1.

Lykke Li!!

I’m so excited because the Pabst sent out an email this afternoon to say Lykke Li will be doing a Milwaukee show in August. She’s brilliant in her own right, but she’s also been doing some awesome collaborations lately (Bon Iver, El Perro Del Mar, Kleerup, NASA.) I heart her so count me in…and watch this amazing acoustic version of I’m Good, I’m Gone.

To the Woods

*Sigh*…I’m almost there. I’m getting an extended weekend, a minor but totally necessary break from the 9-5 world.

When my friends go on an extended weekend, they go to Vegas; not this girl. I’m fortunate that my family “owns” a small bit of land in western Wisconsin where my dad built a cabin. Its more like a house filled with most modern conveniences (no cable, no cell reception, no internet) but thats irrelevant; its my favorite piece of the planet. Its the kind of place where you can’t see your neighbors because there are acres of hills and forest between you. You look at the sky at night and think, “I had no idea there were so many stars.” You stop to listen and hear nothing. You go exploring in the woods and always find something beautiful. Again, its my most favorite place. One more day and I’m there. In honor of my much anticipated weekend, I’ve chosen some cabin themed items from the depths of Etsy. Check it out!

I know it all sounds so serene and perfect (it really is,) but the rock girl in me might have to give in to the Fever Marlene show Friday night in Madison. That will be sufficient noise for the weekend.
