Isn’t this the truth? Love Bukowski.
There is something fundamentally old-timey about the holidays. It is the single time of year when classic, timeless traditions still prevail at the heart of things. These vintage greetings are no exception; they convey the spirit of the season and they have an added effect: nostalgia. The vintage aesthetic brings to mind images of grandmas preparing elaborate dinners, sparkly cocktail dresses, creeping down stairs, stuffing stockings with oranges and hard candy, singing Christmas carols in quiet neighborhoods, hiding new puppies in boxes, etc. I love it all so much.
When I was little, I got an “Adventskalender” from my super-German, super-old grandparents (ahem - Oma & Opa) every December. I always loved the surprise of opening the little doors to find out what kind of candy was hidden inside. I still buy advent calendars for myself every year and it is still pretty fun counting down the days until Christmas. Here are some grown-up, handmade advent banners and calendars found on Etsy.
Some of you are completely bonkers and you are spending this Friday shopping at your local establishments. Some of you are like me: shopping from the comfort of your couch. A lot of Etsy sellers have decided to have fantastic Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. Here are few vintage, Christmas-y shops with some fab deals for those of you shopping at home! Love, love, love all these great vintage finds. Happy Holidays, everyone.
